Tagworld and New Line Cinema Declare Two Winners for Snakes On A Plane Film and Soundtrack Contest

Social Networking site TagWorld (www.tagworld.com) and New Line Cinema today announced Los Angeles-based band, Captain Ahab, as the official winner of the Snakes On A Plane soundtrack contest. Captain Ahab's song "Snakes on a Brain" beat out nearly 500 entries for the coveted placement in the film and on the Snakes On A Plane soundtrack.

New Line to Distribute Michel Gondry's Be Kind, Rewind

New Line Cinema has acquired the domestic distribution rights to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry's comedy Be Kind, Rewind (working title), which stars Jack Black and is scheduled to begin shooting in September.

New Line will Rush 'Hour 3'
New Line's rushing to start "Rush Hour 3," officially greenlighting the sequel with the aim of launching production in late summer and releasing it next summer. The mini-major's announcement Wednesday capped a lengthy and complicated effort to lock down the third version dating back to 2001, when "Rush Hour 2" grossed close to $350 million worldwide. The 1998 original took in more than $240 million.

New Line Cinema Greenlights The Golden Compass for a September 4 Start Date

New Line Cinema has officially greenlit production on The Golden Compass, the highly anticipated adaptation of the first of author Philip Pullman's bestselling His Dark Materials trilogy, it was announced today by New Line's Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne. Production on the $150 million-budgeted film is scheduled to begin September 4 in the UK, with Oscar-nominated writer/director Chris Weitz (About a Boy, Antz) at the helm.

Michelle Pfeiffer Joins Hairspray Film

Variety reports this morning that Michelle Pfeiffer has signed on to the Hairspray film
as Velma von Tussel . Additionally, the film has firmed up its production schedule, which has it going before the cameras in September '06 for a December 21, 2007 release. Hairspray won't be Pfeiffer's
first major screen role in a musical, she got her on screen start in Grease 2. Later, in 1989, she starred as chanteuse Susie Diamond in The Fabulous Baker Boys, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Her
non-musical film credits include: Scarface , Ladyhawke, The Witches of Eastwick,
Married to the Mob, Tequila Sunrise, The Russia House, Frankie and Johnny, Batman Returns, The Age of Innocence, Dangerous Minds, One Fine Day, I Am Sam, and White Oleander. Currently, Pfeiffer is filming Stardust,
the Sci-Fi fantasy epic opposite Robert DeNiro, Claire Danes, and Sienna Miller, which is also due to be released in 2007.
